Xtalfluor E Synthesis Essay

(deoxofluorinating agent/activating agent)

Alternate Name: N,N-diethylamino-S,S-difluorosulfinium tetrafluoroborate, (difluoro-λ4-sulfanylidene)-diethylazanium tetrafluoroborate.

Physical Data: mp 84–85 °C.

Solubility: partially soluble in CH3CN, CH2Cl2, ClCH2CH2Cl, EtOAc, toluene, and DMF. Reacts slowly with CH3CN and DMF.

Form Supplied in: off-white crystalline powder; few commercial sources.

Purification: recrystallization from dichloroethane

Handling, Storage, and Precautions: Diethylaminodifluorosulfinium tetrafluoroborate (XtalFluor-E®) is toxic by inhalation, through contact with skin, and if swallowed. It should be used only in a chemical fume hood. Stable under recommended storage conditions (tightly closed container in a dry and well-ventilated place at 2–8 °C). Reacts violently with water.
